Madrid (and much of Spain for that matter) is experiencing unprecedented rainfall, with March 2025 officially becoming the wettest month on record of any month since 1893. Rivers are overflowing, reservoirs are bursting at the seams. The towering red bar you see on the graph indicates the amount of rain Madrid has received this March (2025) in comparison to the other months. For a dry country like Spain, this much water can be beneficial, but there’s a limit to everything. Listen and learn more.

If in March it Marches…

There’s a saying in Spanish which roughly translated as, “If in March in Mays, in May it Marches..” meaning that when the weather at this time of year is more like that of late Spring and early summer, expect the opposite when May comes around.   In other words, the early relief from winter can spell miserable days a couple of months from now.

I’m assuming that the opposite is true.  I’m actually hoping so, because March can’t be anymore more marchy that it is right now.  Damp, windy, rainy, drizzly, cloudy, mirky, sunny (very rarely), dark and chilly.   I tell, just a pure joy to be out in the streets.   Thank God there is something to look forward to!
